Erlangen Colloquium 2018
16 March 2017
When speakers spontaneously pick up the topic of live room acoustics and hosts kindly refer to their guests as “sound absorbers,” there is no doubt that you are at a meeting about…hearing! This time we are talking about the “Erlangen Colloquium for audiological research and development.” For two days at the end of February, host Sivantos gathered the “Who’s who?” of the audiological scientists and developers for the 45th Erlangen Colloquium. 15 lectures offered comprehensive insights into this area and left no doubt that the better the faculties work together, the better hearing deficits can be understood and the hard of hearing can be helped!
Study results from research projects from London, Aachen, Oldenburg, Erlangen, Lübeck, Vienna, Frankfurt, and Bochum were presented and discussed. The topics included binaural speech understanding, the natural perception of one’s own voice, and new approaches to tinnitus. This year’s key note speakers dealt extensively with modern methods to evaluate hearing aids in real life settings and “deep learning” is opening exciting new opportunities for hearing aid signal processing.
A high-caliber and inspiring science conference that provides key opinion leaders with a unique opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen networks, and be inspired by the latest research.
